“Happy Christmas - War Is Over.”
Why should Christmas be a special time for peace? Is it because of what the Angels said to the shepherds? Why shouldn’t the rest of the year be a time for peace too? Isn’t that what the Angels message was really about - the whole world - forever? Shouldn’t every day be Christmas Day?
After the first World War it was said that this was the war to end all wars. After the second World War people said it should never happen again. Since then there have been more wars, persecution, ethnic cleansing, genocide, starvation, and homeless refugees than ever before - and even through the Christmas season !
John Lennon sings.... “So this is Christmas, and what have we done?” It’s ironic but war is NOT over!!
And the person who put this video together with such vivid and poignant clips sums up the world’s apparent apathy to everyone having a happy Christmas because war is over.
Maybe John Lennon’s song is just wishful thinking - how awful to think that the Angel’s message might have been just wishful thinking too! “Peace on earth and goodwill towards all mankind.” How can we have a happy Christmas when we know what’s going on in the rest of the world? Do we care - and what are we doing about it?
