1948: Classic BBC Radio Theme ~ Sports Report - “Out Of The Blue.”
The famous BBC Sports Report football results music is "Out of the Blue", composed by Hubert Bath in the 1930s for an RAF marching display. Commonly and affectionately known as the Football Results Programme it has been the theme for the world's longest-running sports program, broadcast on Saturday afternoons at 5:00 PM, since 1948.
Sports Report is one of the longest-running programmes on British radio. It started in the first week of 1948, and has always been aired from 5.00 to 6.00 p.m. on Saturday evenings during the football season, It went out on the BBC Light Programme, where it stayed until 25 April 1964.
