1935: The Laughing Policeman.
1935: Charles Penrose 'The Laughing Policeman' (80 rpm). The 1935 re-release of Charles Penrose's most famous song recorded in 1926, it became very popular during the 60's 70's and 80's due to becoming a regularly requested tune on Childrens Favourites on BBC radio. As late as 1935 some Columbia releases were still 80 rpm instead of 78 rpm which became the standard in 1925 they also had no run on or run off groove. The song was originally recorded by Penrose in 1922 as Charles Jolly it was written by Billie Grey aka Mrs Penrose.
