Funds are URGENTLY required for this small town in Romania. Sister Marie-Agnes has been here for a few years now, helping to set up a school, furnishing an orphanage, and helping to set up a sewing factory for young boys and girls who are put out on the streets when they are told to leave the orphanage at sixteen years of age. They have nowhere to go and no work to do and no-one wants them because most families are so poor.

She has also recently set up a food distribution centre for the poorest of families and is in desperate need of funds for all these activities. During the summer months she organises summer schools in the countryside for schoolchildren and needs funds to feed, house and clothe many of the children. More recently she has set up a soup-kitchen in Campulung.

"We have started giving out bread to the poorest families. At present there are many hungry families in Motru so people are grateful for even a loaf of bread per person per week," wrote Sister Agnes recently. "The summer months will be less severe as fruits begin to come and spring onions and other vegetables appear on every little bit of ground. The people love to till the soil which is very fertile."
