"UNDISCOVERED"

"WOMAN LAY DEAD FOR OVER TWO YEARS
WITH THE TELEVISION STILL ON"

The following story is reprinted from "The Daily Mail" of Friday 14th. April 2006.

"The body of a 40-year-old woman lay undiscovered in her flat for more than two years.

When Joyce VIncent's skeletal remains were found, her TV was still switched on and she was surrounded by Christmas presents.

The body of the unemployed former employee of advertising giant Saatchi and Saatchi was only discovered after she built up thousands of pounds in rent arrears.

When the local housing association went to repossess her bedsit in Wood Green, North London, a pile of mail from November 2003 was found by the door.

Miss Vincent was discovered lying on her back in the front room which doubled up as bedroom. The heating had also been left on. An inquest at Hornsey Coroner's Court in North London was unable to establish the cause of death because her body was so decomposed but police found no suspicious circumstances. Deputy Coroner Andrew Walker recorded an open verdict.

Last night a tragic picture began to emerge of a woman who lost contact with her family and lived in a community that failed to look out for its neighbours.

Several neighbours said they had noticed a foul smell coming from the flat but had not thought to report it. A source involved in the investigation said: "She detached herself from her family but there was no bust-up. They are a really nice family."
